Looks great!!!Thank you very much! --J.C. Cascio – Strange Engineering, Director of Business Development
"Looks amazing! Thank you guys for helping us out!" -- Andy Warren - BuuHoo Malibu builder
Covering the story of Christian Damgaard’s turbocharged Malibu—nicknamed “Buuhoo”—was a deep dive into what it really takes to succeed in drag and drive racing. This isn’t just about going fast. It’s about building a car that can endure long miles on the street and still perform under pressure at the track.
With help from 11-time NMCA champion Andy Warren, Damgaard’s Malibu went through a strategic transformation. The car already had the power—770 horsepower from a turbocharged 5.3L LS—but it lacked traction, stopping power, and overall drivability. Warren teamed up with Strange Engineering to address those issues with purpose-built components.
Key upgrades included Strange’s single and double adjustable aluminum shocks. These provided improved weight transfer at launch and allowed quick adjustments between street and track settings. Stronger, more ductile alloy axles were added to handle high torque loads while remaining flexible enough for street abuse.
The braking system saw one of the biggest transformations. Switching from a factory-style vacuum setup to Strange’s hydraulic disc brakes gave the Malibu serious stopping power. Lighter calipers and two-piece slotted rotors saved 75 pounds while dramatically improving safety and control at high speeds.
The result? A night-and-day difference in performance, handling, and reliability. “The car drives better on the street and stops amazingly at the track,” Warren shared. Buuhoo proves that strategic upgrades are key to thriving in the evolving world of drag and drive racing.
